HSM Offshore Energy has completed and delivered the offshore high voltage substation (OHVS) for the Thor offshore wind farm, located around 22 kilometres off the west coast of Jutland, Denmark. The substation has left the yard in Schiedam and is en route to its final offshore location.
The delivery marks three key milestones: the load-out of the jacket, the load-out of the topside, and the sail-away of both structures. Once installed, the substation will collect and transform electricity from 72 wind turbines for transmission to the onshore grid at Volder Søndervang.
HSM Offshore Energy was awarded the full EPCIC (engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning) contract in 2022, covering both the topside and jacket, including high-voltage equipment. The topside measures 39 x 36 x 18 metres and weighs approximately 2,600 metric tonnes. The jacket is 40 x 40 x 50 metres and weighs about 2,500 metric tonnes.
Thor is a joint project of RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%).
