China Huaneng Group and Dongfang Electric have developed a 17 MW direct-drive floating wind turbine. It is expected to produce around 68 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, enough to supply approximately 40,000 households. The turbine will be tested in offshore conditions near Yangjiang in Guangdong Province.
The design includes a 262-metre rotor diameter and a swept area of about 53,000 square metres. The hub height reaches 152 metres. All key components—including blades, generators and transformers—were manufactured domestically in China.
