The developer of Ayre Offshore Wind Farm has submitted an offshore consent application to the Scottish Government Marine Directorate. Ayre Offshore Wind Farm is being developed by Qair and is located to the east of Orkney.
Once operational, the project is expected to contribute 1 GW of renewable energy capacity to the national grid. The offshore consent submission follows the application for onshore planning permission, which was submitted to The Highland Council three months earlier.
The offshore consent application was prepared by Thistle Wind Partners, a consortium formed by Qair International, DEME Concessions and Aspiravi International. The consortium continues to support the delivery of the Ayre project through the consenting and development phases.
The Marine Directorate opened its consultation on the application on 11 December 2025. The consultation period will remain open until 8 February 2026.
